Overall I thought the final peice looked good, I didnt really like it that much becuase I messed up in a few areas but all together it looked nice. I think the peice is successful because you can tell that when you look at it from different perpectives that it does look different. The colored pencils worked for this project, they made the images come to life and really stand out in the game, what didnt work for me were the watercolors. I felt like it was smugding together and looked like a mess before I applied the color pencil. If I were to do this project again I wouldnt use the watercolors. I would used something else to give it the same effect but didnt risk the drawing getting smugded. The most difficult part in creating this peice was making sure that all the lines went back to the vanishing points; if they didnt then the project wouldnt look different from looking directly about then from an angle. I learned from this peice that for an image to look real in a drawing you have to add a lot of value and shadows, without them the peice would look dull and wouldnt look real at all.
Stencil                 Spray Paint       Xacto Knife        Positive/Negative Space
Composition    Collage                Photoshop        Threshold              Contrast
1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil.
I used threshold to change how the object looked. It showed the positive and negative space cleary so that I would know what to cut and what to leave in the process.
2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea.
I used book pages of any books to make it look like a collage and layered it really well so that there were not spots not covered. Then I used water colors to make a rainbow look so that the finished stencil would really stand out.
3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.
In my project the negative space was what I was cutting out with the Xacto knife. And the positive space is what I left for the outline of the imgage. Without the positive and negative space the image wouldnt look like anything.
4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting.
When using the xacto knife it was difficult sometimes because I had to cut out very small peices. you had to hold the xacto knife carefully so that you wouldnt cut yourself and you had to be aware not to cut yourself. You use the knife by holding it like a pencil and gently cutting. You needed to have a cutting pad underneath the stencil or else you would cut right through to the table. I had to overcome being patient because I had so many little things to cut out, but I going to fast I could have cut myself of messed up my stencil.
5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this.
I liked using the spray paint, I liked how the finished peice looked. Color is an important choice because if you picked the wrong color you may not be able to see the image so great. The placement of te stencil was also important, you had to pick where you would think it would look best, and if you put it in the wrong spor you could have ruined the whole thing. In this project I noticed that the little things count. The little peices in the stencil make a difference.
